Derek Benham

Research Assistant
Graduate

Derek Benham is a PhD Student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department, having started in July 2021.

Derek is interested in small robotic applications like remote sensing with agriculture implications, as well as computer vision, controls, navigation, and self-driving cars. He is currently over the autonomous surface vessel projects in the lab.

From Kennewick, Washington, Derek loves Star Wars, 3D printing, 3D printing Star Wars props, competing in the semi-annual robotic competition hosted by the department, and auto mechanics. He always has at least 2 side projects going on at any given time and can build anything. His go to de-stressing activity is playing basketball.
